There are, of course, a number of koi varieties which have only two colors.  We've already gone over the Kohaku (Koh-ha-koo)
(to review, the Kohaku is a white fish with red markings, considered a Gosanke, or foundation koi.  One of the "big three")
Moving on to koi varieties with two colors, we'll break them down starting with two colored koi varieties with one of those colors
being black.  The most common of the most common of these two colored koi varieties are the Bekko
(Beck-oh) and the Utsuri
(Ooh-tsur-ree).

The Shiro Bekko
(
Shi-row Beck-oh)
The Shiro Utsuri
(
Shi-row Ooh-tsur-ree)
The Aka Bekko (Ah-kah
fish with small black (or
sumi
sue-mee) patches.
In this case, the word
"Aka" (
Ah-kah) is used to
describe the red.
In these two sets of photos, the
difference between the Shiro Bekko
and the Shiro Utsuri is obvious.  Both
have a white, or shiro (
shi-row)
ground with black, or sumi (
sue-mee)
markings, however, the Bekko has
small black spots and the Utsuri has
large black patches.
The Hi Utsuri (Hee Ooh-tsur-ree)
The Aka Bekko (Ah-kah Beck-oh)
The Hi Utsuri (Hee
Ooh-tsue-ree
) is a is a
red fish with large black
(or sumi
sue-mee)
patterns.  In this case,
the word "Hi" (
Hee) is
used to describe the red.
The Ki Utsuri (Kee Ooh-tsur-ree)
The Ki Utsuri (Kee
Ooh-tsue-ree
) is a is a yellow
fish with large black (or sumi
sue-mee) patterns.  Here again,
we find the word "Ki" (
Kee) is
used to describe the yellow.
As far as I know, there are no Ki
Bekko or Yamabuki Bekko (yellow fish
with small black patches) registered
as a koi variety, however, just
because I've never heard of one
doesn't make it so.  It may be a
variety that is still being developed,
or maybe I just haven't come across
one.  Whatever the case may be, I
don't have any to show you here.
