I have been "collecting" koi for some time now, but only recently started taking pictures of them BEFORE I put them into the
pond.  Once they're in there, I don't take them out unless I decide I don't want to keep that particular koi and then I'll list it for
sale.  I don't take them out for a photo shoot under any other circumstance!  Often, I'll keep several small koi of the same
variety to see how they turn out, or I'll keep a couple of the same variety because I happen to really like that particular variety.
There are some koi that I would buy (if the price was right and I had the money) no matter how many of that variety I already
had in my pond.

Beni Kumonryu
These are exceptionally
difficult fish to find, and if
you find one you like, GET IT!
Since they are Doitsu, or
scaleless, they tend to change
their color patterns
dramatically over time, so
they're always interesting.
Budo Goromo
Yet another interesting koi
variety, as ideally the red and
black patterns on the fish
completely overlap, with no
black or red patches
anywhere else on the fish.
Butterfly Gin Rin Orenji Ogon
This is a true "orange" colored
fish.  All other koi are
considered red, however, the
Orenji is the exception.  I
particularly like the diamond
scales, or Gin Rin on this one,
as well as it's long, uniform
fins.
Butterfly Hi Utsuri
You can certainly tell the
difference between the
previous Orenji and this red
an black fish.  Not a very good
picture of this beauty, but the
colors are clean and bold, and
the fins are even and
identically colored.
Gin Rin Ai Goromo
I'm not sure if you can tell
from this picture just how
small this koi was when I
added it to my pond, but I
kind of felt sorry for it as it
has one stumpy pectoral fin.  I
don't know how the fish will
turn out, but I thought it was
pretty enough to try to grow
out a little in my pond.
Gin Rin Asagi
I can't even tell you how long
I've wanted one of these koi,
but at the 2009 MPKS Koi &
Goldfish Show, Mike White
had TWO of them!  What a
find!  They look like they're
made of pure silver.
