This is a view of the space from the deck of the
house. The original client who contracted me
to do the work wanted the pond placed further
back in the corner, but I convinced her to bring
it out into the yard a bit to accommodate a
stream with the waterfall. As you can see, the
pond location is in a heavily shaded area, which
means there were A LOT of roots to deal with,
but the trees also helped to give the finished
pond an appearance of 'belonging'.
We had some company during the course of the
excavation. Isn't he handsome?
Not a big pond, by any stretch of the imagination, but it fills the space nicely,
complements the existing foliage, and creates enough sound to be enjoyed from
the house. As is typical of the ponds we install, there is a standing area
incorporated into the design, for viewing and feeding the fish. Birgit also wanted a
seating area, but didn't want anything too modern, so we utilized some of the same
stone we used in the pond design to construct a small 'reflecting' bench to the left
of the waterfall. The waterfall itself seems to bubble up out of the ground and
cascade over three flat rocks before entering the pond.

Notice the "Fred Flintstone" inspired bench in the garden
area on the left side of the pond. These are fun and easy to
do - if you have big enough rocks, and are strong enough to
lift them!.
