Jackie has a wrap-around front porch.  She wanted a large pond to keep koi in, but in order to make the best use of the space, I
suggested we not only do a main pond, but an upper pool and waterfall.  We built the upper pool edge with concrete block (as
shown here) and elevated the filter tank with concrete block too, then backfilled against the concrete block with excavated
dirt.
That's Mike on
the backhoe
(and me in the
hole).  He is so
good with that
backhoe that we
had the entire
pond dug and
had the liner set
(including
bottom drain)
on the first day!
 With all the
rock we had to
set by hand, it
was quite a
relief to Paula's
and my back to
have the hole
dug in such
short order.

Mike had
himself
positioned just
behind what will
be the upper
pool.  Right is a
view from his
vantage point.
You get a good view
of this pond from
every angle on the
porch.  Jackie is on
the left and Paula is
on the right.
This is the view as you walk up the front
steps.  Just wait until I get some pictures
of when Jackie gets the plants!  It's
gorgeous!  Even if I DO say so myself . . .
