Lacy's pond was originally dug by her ex-husband (reason enough
for her to hate it), who had little to no knowledge of how to dig a
pond.  The entire edge of the pond was below grade, so
everything from the yard ended up in the pond, including the
surrounding rocks.  The fish were surviving, but it was ugly.  The
from under the log to the left of the pond.  The flow was barely a
trickle, and the Tetra barrel filter was clearly visable.
After emptying the contents of the pond and pulling out the
liner, the first task was to dig in some level plant shelves.
As with most "Do-It-Yourselfer" pond projects, her
ex-husband had dug the pond in at a slope, so there was no
way to set potted plants inside the pond without having
them slide to the bottom.  Fortunately he had left plenty of
uncut liner around the edges of the pond, so we were able
to reinstall the existing liner.
Once compacted dirt is removed, as it was from the pond
stability.  Instead, we sank 1/2" Rebar around the entire
perimeter and poured a concrete footing to raise the pond
edge above the water level.  Once the concrete set, we set
the liner, filled the pond with water and set a row of
decorative brick edging with mortar.  The river rock was
then backfilled against the footing, making it invisible.
We moved the waterfall to the opposite end of the pond so
it could be viewed from the house and the all-glass three
seasons room.  We also added a skimmer box and a 1250 gph
pump.
You wouldn't guess it from this picture, but once the water lilies and
other marginal plants came in, the pond was completely covered with
foliage and you couldn't see the fish!
Yes, that's a picture of Lacy, sitting out by her new
pond.  She promised to sue me if I put it on the web
site.

The dogs pictured below are Louie, Arthur and Jackie
(left to right).  They were a BIG help.  NOT!
